Cleaver-Brooks Provides Tools to Help Companies Navigate New EPA Regulations First Compliance Form due September 17, 2011

Ga. – Cleaver-Brooks has launched a new section of its website at cleaverbrooks.com/epa to help
companies understand and comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s
(EPA) new regulations for boilers. There
are two rules that apply to boilers: the Major Source Rule (also known as
Boiler MACT or BMACT), which applies to boilers and process heaters at large
sources of air toxics, and the Area Source Rule, which applies to boilers at
smaller sources of air toxics. The new
Cleaver-Brooks website offers tools to help companies determine if they are
subject to the Major Source Rule or the Area Source Rule and outlines the
associated compliance requirements.
Compliance requirements vary based on a boiler’s categorization, established
by the following criteria: emissions level, fuel source, age and size. Visitors to cleaverbrooks.com/epa can follow a
simple three-step process to determine the right category for each of their
boilers and learn more about the associated compliance requirements. These requirements range from monthly fuel
metering and tune-ups to conducting an energy assessment and meeting emissions
limits. On its site, Cleaver-Brooks
provides the tools and forms necessary to meet a majority of EPA requirements.
Most boiler owners will need to take immediate action to be in compliance with the new EPA rules. The first requirement is submitting an Initial Notification of Applicability, due by September 17, 2011. The form and instructions to complete it are
available on the Cleaver-Brooks website.

The EPA is reconsidering parts
of the Major Source and Area Source Rules. While it is carrying out the formal
reconsideration process, the EPA announced in May 2011 that it would delay the
implementation of the Major Source Rule until further notice. However, the compliance requirements of the
Area Source Rule, which include the majority of boilers in the United States,
are in effect while the EPA is reconsidering this rule. Although the rules for
Major Source facilities are not yet in effect, Cleaver-Brooks recommends that
Major Source facilities submit the initial notification of applicability,
denoting their status as a Major Source.
